Alberta Identification Card

An Alberta Identification Card is a government-issued photo identification card used by persons over the age of 12 who do not hold an Alberta Drivers Licence.  If you have an Alberta Drivers Licence, you cannot be issued an Alberta ID Card.

Driver Licence Classifications

CLASS 7 - GDL LEARNERS

Knowledge tests can be challenged until 4:00 PM daily.

If you are writing your Class 7 GDL Learners knowledge test for the first time you need to be at least 14 years of age and will need the ORIGINAL documents of the following: 

     - If born in Canada:  Canadian birth certificate, non-expired

       Canadian passport, or a non-expired Secure Certificate of         Indian Status ( federally-issued)  - we are unable to take             band issued status cards.

     - If not born in Canada:  Work/study permit or 

       Permanent Resident card

     - If under the age of 18:  You must be accompanied by a 

       parent or legal guardian

     - If over the age of 18:  You must bring Proof of 

       Current Alberta Residency such as mailed utility bills                   or bank statements (no more than 90 days old),

       lease/rental agreement, or Alberta Residency Letter

       issued from a treaty band office (no more than 14 days 

       old)

If you pass the knowledge test, you will also need to pass a vision screening.

CLASS 6 -  MOTORCYCLE

Knowledge tests can be challenged until 4:00 PM daily.

If you are writing your Class 6  knowledge test for the first time you need to be at least 16 years of age and have retained your Class 7 GDL Learners licence for at least one (1) year.

If you pass the knowledge test, you will also need to pass a vision screening.

After passing the knowledge test, you will have one (1) year to book and pass a Class 6  road test.  If you do not complete the road test within the year of passing your knowledge test, you will have to re-write the knowledge test.

Alberta's Organ and Tissue Donation Registry

When renewing your driver's licence you will also be able to register your intent and give consent to become an organ/tissue donor. 

 

There is no fee for this service and you can save up to eight lives!

Class 1 - 3 you can book online by visiting eservices.alberta.ca or by coming into the office to purchase your permit first. 

 

Fees for Drivers Licences

First Application - 5 year term      $93.00

Renewal - 5 year term                   $93.00

Address/Name Change                 $28.00

Replacement - Lost, Stolen, etc.   $28.00

If your driver's licence expired more than six (6) months ago, you will need to provide proof of Canadian presence (Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, etc.) as well as proof of Alberta residency (utility statement, financial statement, etc. that has been mailed to your Alberta address within the last 90 days).
